David Borton, 64, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Ave West, Marshalltown, Iowa followed by a light lunch gathering at Lincoln Valley Golf Course directly after burial at Clemons Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday May 3, 2012 at the funeral home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Phone 641-844-1234.David James Borton was born on May 19, 1947 in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was the son of James Leonard and Jean (Lieberum) Borton. He attended school in the Marshalltown School district graduating with the class of 1965 and then went to Marshalltown Community College graduating with a degree in Machine Trades in 1972. David served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970 serving a tour in Vietnam. On December 2, 1966 David was united in marriage with Nancy Ream at Clemons Congregational Church in Clemons, Iowa. David worked at: Dunham Bush, US Auto Parts and was a partner at Benskin Motor Service, all of them in Marshalltown. In retirement, he worked at Donco Air Distribution Equipment and enjoyed farming with his cousin Stanley Borton. David was a proud member of The American Legion and VFW. David had a wide variety of interests. He spent many years as an engine builder for Marshalltowns Darrel DeFrance IMCA Late Model race car. After retiring from engine building, he spent time attending Bobcat baseball games, growing a garden, barbecuing and attending his share of races.Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 45 years, Nancy, his sons: Joshua (Jane) Borton of Chicago, IL and Jacob Borton of Marshalltown, and sister, JoAnn (Dave) Roupp of Gladbrook. Dave will also be greatly missed by family dogs Hayden, Ruthie, Scooby and Pinky.In death David rejoins his parents, James and Jean.
