David Elgin Campbell, 88, of Marshalltown, died early Tuesday morning, November 30th, at the MMSC.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 4th, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Johnson officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234.Born on December 21st, 1921, near Gilman, Iowa, he was the son of John Bruce and Linnie Margaret (Paul) Campbell. He received his education in the area of his birth. During WWII, he served our country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps as a paratrooper.On August 10th, 1946, he was united in marriage to Vivian Colleen Kutzner in Chicago. They made Marshalltown their home where he was employed by Consolidated Freightways, Transcon and later Midland Trucking as a driver traveling nearly 2 million miles. In the 1970s, they moved to Albuquerque, NM, but returned to their home in Marshalltown about ten years later.David Elgin was a man of faith and is now present with his Lord and Savior. He treasured his family and in years past liked to go hunting, trapping, fishing and enjoyed nature. He will be greatly missed.Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters: Colleen Vry of Marshalltown, Pam Snider of Marshalltown and Patty Wiebensohn of Marshalltown as well as 30 plus grandchildren, 20 plus great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Jean, Floyd, Bill, Lester and Fred and many nieces, nephews and cousins.In death, he rejoined his parents, his daughters Sandy Van Horn (1983), Sharon Daggett (1973), his loving wife Vivian Colleen on March 1, 1988, grandson William Elgin and granddaughter Vivian Tori, as well as siblings Dale, Dora, Robert, Don and Max.
