David Duffy, age 70 and lifelong resident of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by his family. Services for David will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral home and attendees are encouraged to wear casual or NASCAR clothing. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Care for David and his family have been entrusted to the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. David Lynn Duffy was born to Leonard and Grace (Groff) Duffy on September 12, 1950 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He attended school within the Marshalltown community and graduated from Marshalltown High School in the Class of 1968. Shortly after graduation he moved to Cedar Rapids with his family and worked for Square D as a stock clerk for a number of years. He was drawn back to Marshalltown not long after where he began work with the DOT as a maintenance worker before he worked for Cessford and then would eventually work for Marshall County where he would eventually retire in 2019. David was united in marriage to Barbara Burns in Marshalltown, Iowa. Together they began their family raising their three sons Mike, Eric, and Ryan. They celebrated many years together and eventually separated. Later in life, David would go on to marry Penelope “Pam” Krieger. Together they celebrated a number of joyous years until her passing in 2014. Throughout the years, David enjoyed watching a number of NASCAR races and cheering on Dale Earnhardt and attending the Daytona 500 in Daytona Florida from 1992-2019. He loved taking his cruises every year while he was in the area, enjoyed Chevrolet vehicles, riding his Harley Davidson Trike, shooting guns, and loving his dogs. He was always a hard worker and had a very loving and patient nature. He was never late to an event and was always aware of everything going on around him. Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his children Eric Duffy and Ryan (Rose) Duffy;his grandchildren Mariah Duffy, Estrella (Keenan) Johnson, Marissa Duffy, Isrrael Vargas his great-grandchildren Keenan Johnson Jr. and Alaina Johnson; his brother-in-law, Lawson Rushton and sister-in-law Evelyn Duffy; and numerous extended family members. His step son Kevin Krieger and his children Megan Ben and Jack Kreiger, step daughter, Kathy (Ed) Oglesby and her children Jake, Breanna and Justin Oglesby and his step son Adam Krieger and his step great grandchildren Jonah (Emily), Jadein, Kinleigh Oglesby, Khloe, Brooklynn, Brantly, and Windsor. He was preceded in death by his wife Pam Duffy in 2014; his son Mike Duffy in 1991; his brother Raymond Duffy; his parents Leonard and Grace Duffy, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
