David Halvorsen, age 68 of Marshalltown, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Mary Greeley Medical Center.

David Paul Halvorsen was born on November 24, 1957 in Osceola, IA, the first son of Calvin and Vicki (Paul) Halvorsen. When he was young, he worked on farms and managed a feedlot. David was baptized at the Christian Church in Eldora. He graduated from Eldora High School with the class of 1976, and went on to receive a degree in Animal Science.

David believed it was “important to help farmers in any way possible”. He loved talking with farmers and he always had his phone in hand to be available to help. David was very active in 4-H and FFA – always being a top FFA fruit salesman and president for two years. David was also president of Grundy County Pork Producers, which he worked at the Iowa State Fair grilling at their tent. David was involved in the 4-H FFA County Extension for 16 years. David received many accolades in agriculture over the years including: State Farmer Award, Land O Lakes Awards, and many more.

David loved to grill and bake, often catering for groups of any size and event; He was especially known for the Annual Producer Party with over 100 attendees at his home. David also enjoyed gardening flowers and plants, and model trains.

David most recently worked for Heartland Cooperative for 27 years as a livestock consultant. He helped with feed sales, DNR environmental regulations for swine, beef and dairy farmers, along with other roles. David was also a livestock farmer himself.

Outside of his love for agriculture, David was a family man. On August 20, 1994, David was united in marriage with Linda Schnormeier at the Christian Church in Eldora. They were blessed with two children: Lacee and Calvin. David was a supportive dad throughout their lives and now cherishing his grandchildren.

David loved deeply and thought of others before himself throughout his life. He was not one to criticize, condemn or complain. He had a servant’s heart and wanted to help others every day of his life, even until the end while his health was failing.

In death, David is reunited with his father, Calvin Halvorsen; grandparents: Lloyd and Florence Paul and George and Ella Halvorsen; aunt and uncle: Burt and Marilyn Paul; nephew: Brett Halvorsen; brother-in-law, George “Mike” Hollins; and uncle, Charlie Paul.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Linda; his mother, Vicki Halvorsen; children: Lacee (Brian) Johnson of Omaha and Calvin (Jamee) Halvorsen of Marshalltown; granddaughter, Evelyn “Evie” Johnson and Harper Halvorsen, and he embraced Alex Johnson and Miles Taylor (the engineer). He is also survived by his siblings: Doug (Ruth) Halvorsen, Susan Hollins, and Sandy (Rich) Spevak; and several nieces and nephews.
