David Harrell

David Pernay Harrell, 87, of Marshalltown, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at UnityPoint Health- St. Luke’s Hospital- Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services for David will take place on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. David Pernay Harrell was born on May 23, 1937 in Florence, South Carolina. He was the son of Henry and Ellie (Carpenter) Harrell. David graduated from St. John’s High School in 1954. After school, David enlisted and served his county in the United States Navy from 1954 until 1958. On June 12, 1961, David was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Spencer and together they have six children. David had previously worked for Firestone and Fisher Controls. After he retired from Fisher Controls, David worked at the Iowa Veterans Home and while still working he owned and operated South 3rd Ave. Bait shop in Marshalltown until his health declined. David enjoyed fishing, hunting and was in several bowling leagues. He also enjoyed collecting coins and scratching lottery tickets.

David is survived by his Wife Sharon and children: Jeff Harrell, Steven Harrell, Stephanie Marsh-Galloway, Pam (Tony) Briggs, Lisa CaVan and Susan Steen. He is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and sister Ruth Hicks.

David is preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Ellie and siblings: Roger Harrell, Thomas Harrell, Walter Harrell and Frances Perkins.
