David Horney

David C. Horney, age 73, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of March 10, 2025 at Harmony of Marshalltown.

At this time, cremation rites have been accorded and no formal services are planned. A celebration of life held by the family will be announced at a later date. Memorials in David’s name may be directed to his family for a later designation. David was born April 11, 1951 in Marshalltown, Iowa at the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital. He was the second of four children born to Charles and Ola (Nance) Horney. David grew up in Laurel and Newton, Iowa where he attended school.

On October 20, 1972 he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean (Anthony) Holmes. From their union he gained one son Ricky Holmes. They first continued to call Newton their home in the early years of marriage before moving to western Iowa for a number of years. As Barbara’s parents aged, they moved back to Marshalltown and helped to care for them until the time of their passing. David and Barbara remained in Marshalltown and stayed together until the time of her passing in 2006.

In his free time, David loved to spend time in the outdoors. He enjoyed going fishing over at Rock Creek, going deer hunting during the bow season and pheasant hunting. He also had a need for speed and liked to watch NASCAR and anything with MOPAR. He was a collector of many things over the years but had the passion of clocks as well as hot wheel cars. When he was not chasing anything fast, he additionally enjoyed listening to heavy metal music and watching John Wayne movies.

Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his siblings, Vickie (Phil) Grommet, Violet (Gary) Peterson and Rickie Horney alongside numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Horney; step-son, Ricky Holmes; his parents, Charles and Ola Horney; paternal and maternal grandparents and numerous extended family members.
