David Hulen, age 74, formerly of Monroe, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 1st, at the Iowa Veterans Home where he has resided since July of 2009. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel with Chaplain Angela Doty officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Iowa Soldiers Home Cemetery with full military honors by the combined VFW and American Legion Posts in the Marshalltown area. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for David and his family. P. 641-844-1234. Born on November 12th, 1944, in Marceline, MO, he was the son of Charles and Roberta (Weber) Hulen. He received his primary education in Missouri until his family moved to Iowa where he graduated from Monroe High School. David served our country honorably in the United States Marines as a corpsman during Viet Nam. He was employed as an installer of telecommunications for ATT in New Hampshire before returning to his home state of Iowa. On January 9th, 2002, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Cindy Slagle, at their home in Monroe. Left to cherish his memory is Cindy, his loving wife of 16 years, his two sons- Thomas (Laura) Hulen and Michael Hulen, six grandchildren: Sarah, Meghan, Zachary, Gabriel, Kierra and Nathan and one great granddaughter Stella Mae. In death, David rejoined his parents and one brother.
