David Klaas, 64 of Rhodes, passed away on his birthday in the early hours of Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at his home. Memorial services for Dave will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Pastor Karen requests a mask be worn if you plan to attend the service. Dave’s family is requesting that all attendees please wear casual attire, especially your favorite Iowa Hawkeye or Kansas City Chief attire. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dave and his family. David Klaas was born on September 8, 1956 in Marshalltown to Merlin and Norma Wignall Klaas. He was united in marriage to Jan Klaas on September 7, 1985. Dave had worked as a wastewater treatment operator at Burke in Nevada. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs. Dave was an avid movie and TV watcher, enjoyed bowling in the Melbourne Mixed League, coaching and umpiring baseball and softball games, and woodworking. Dave is survived by his wife Jan; his children: Joel (Kelly) Lane of Valrico, FL, Chris (Deb) Cook of Rhodes, Jamie Cook of Grimes and Heidi Tuttle of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Brandon, Morgan, Nicholas, Aiden and Mercedes (Nicole): siblings: Karen (Jim) Hart, Mark Klaas and Dan (Sarah) Klaas; and his father, Merlin Klaas. Dave is preceded in death by his mother, Norma.
