David Kent Long passed away on May 2, 2014 in Iowa City, Iowa after a brief illness. He was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on September 11, 1955 to Raymond Duane Long and Irene Isabelle Hughes Long. He is survived by his sisters: Diane Amundson of Iowa City, Dana Alexander (Jim Anderson) and Denise (Dan) Rife, both of Wichita, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Duane Dean Long. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Whitten Community Church in Whitten, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Memorials may be directed towards the family for a monument. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. He loved the Lord deeply and wanted others to know Him as well. David received a degree in English at Iowa State University and a Communications degree at DMACC. He also worked toward a degree at Dartmouth College in Boston, MA where he was close friends with the Dean of Students. He worked for MCI for 15 years and other jobs. David had a keen and thorough knowledge of the Civil War, World War II and current and past political events. He was actively and avidly interested in current events as they unfolded in regard to the return of Jesus Christ in the rapture or first Resurrection. He loved the Lords Appearing. His mind soaked up all things historical, political and Bible Prophecy. David did pray to the Lord in earnest daily and he read the Bible daily with zeal and passion. He had the courage to remain faithful in his confidence in the Lord despite trials and suffering. David contracted pneumonia and on May 1 entered Iowa City Hospital where the Lord saw his suffering and took him home on May 2. He loved his friends and associates herein Whitten and the surrounding communities.
