David Wayne Mac Mayer David Wayne Mac Mayer, 59, of State Center, Iowa, formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa, died Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa from complications of pneumonia. Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held by the family at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, at First Friends Church (2409 S. 6th Street, Marshalltown). A private interment at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. David was born February 12, 1956, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the youngest of three children born to Harold G. and Doris V. (Darter) Mayer. He attended school in Marshalltown and Le Grand areas graduating from LDF High School in 1974. The nickname Mac was given to him when he worked at McDonalds as a teenager and the name stuck. After high school he travelled with his dad driving truck coast to coast, and was later employed at Bobs Feed & Supply, Grundy Welding & Machine, and MEPCO. He married Renee L. Knode, daughter of Gene L. and Shirley M. (Hurd) Knode, February 21, 1987 at United Methodist Church in Garwin, Iowa. They lived in Garwin for a short time and then moved to Marshalltown. The couple had no children. She preceded him in death February 28, 2002. Davids greatest passion was fishing and some of his fondest memories were vacations spent at his Grandma Kayes cabin at Lake of the Woods, Morson, Canada. He also enjoyed many fishing trips with his brother Dan and nephews to Minnesota, and he even made it to Ketchikan, Alaska fishing for Halibut. He enjoyed tinkering with vehicles, riding motorcycles, woodworking, playing golf, and taking his 1915 Ford T Bucket Roadster for a spin. David is survived by his mother Doris Von Sherman of Marshalltown, Iowa; his sister Cindy Eaton (husband Mark); brother Dan Fred Mayer, and brother-in-law Ron Knode; nieces Kimberly Schnathorst, Jessica Drager (husband Jason), and Jody Gibson (husband Brian); nephews Kelly Underhill (wife Amy), Jeremy Mayer (wife Lisa), Jake Mayer, Josh Mayer, and Ryan Knode; and also several great nieces and great nephews. Preceding him in death besides his wife was his father, Harold Mayer on October 3, 1996. The family would like to thank the staff, with special thanks to cousin Don Klaas, at State Center Nursing and Rehab Center for Davids exceptional care over the last three years. David has touched the lives of many. He wanted us to think he was tough but he had a heart of gold. He is much loved and will be missed.
