David “Dave” McDonald, age 58, of Beaman, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Haverhill, Iowa on April 11, 2025.


Services for Dave will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 6:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. A visitation for family and friends will be held beginning at 5:00 P.M. until time of services. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear purple. He will be laid to rest on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshalltown. David Dean McDonald was born November 4, 1966 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Wilford “LeRoy” McDonald and Gladys Charlton (Moody). He grew up alongside 10 siblings in Colo, Iowa before moving to Marshalltown. In his later years he attended Marshalltown High School.


David was a hardworking man. He raised six children, Sondra, Jarrod, Kristina, Katie, Abbie, and Haley in addition to taking on the father role two additional whom he called his own, Shanda and Eric. On January 4, 2008, he was united in marriage to Laurie Campbell. From their union, Dave gained another son, Johnny. Dave began a business of his own McDonald Mobile Repair which serviced the Marshalltown area for many years. Additionally, he opened a second business, McDonald Lawn Care.


Dave constantly showed compassion and kindness to all at every point in his life never knowing a stranger. He was one to be very trusting of anybody regardless if they had done right or wrong to him in any circumstance. He would go as far to give the shirt off his back if that is what things came down to. His family was of the utmost importance in his life, spending as much time as possible with them including his grandchildren. He always looked forward to the 4th of July when he would host his family at the farm for a large get together complete with fireworks to end the evening. He enjoyed being outdoors in his free time whether that was just simply being outside, going camping, or taking rides on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle with his son Jarrod. On his fun side, he was known to partake in karaoke and have a good time. Dave had a soft spot for animals and loved his dog Nugget.


Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife, Laurie McDonald; his children, Sondra (Harvey) Allen, Jarrod (Jennifer) McDonald, Kristina (Kody) Miller, Abbie McDonald, Haley (Bryant) Williams, Johnny (Christa) Huff, Shanda Odell and Eric Odell; his grandchildren, Justin, Hayden, Harvey Jr., Victoria, Savanna, Emilee, Katee, Brentley, Kaden, Dustin, Austin, Alayna, Briar, his grandson on the way Davis, Ever and Dominick; one great-grandchild, Baby Allen; his siblings, Norman McDonald, Bonnie Martin, Malinda Lutes, Chad Moody, Heather Sanchez, Felicia Rodriguez, Amanda Merical, Christopher McDonald, Andrea Tesdahl and Nathan McDonald; alongside numerous nieces and nephews and his furry four-legged companion Nugget.


He is preceded in death by his daughter, Katie McDonald; his father and step-mother, LeRoy and Marla McDonald; his mother Gladys Charlton; his Grandma D and George McDonald; uncle, Gary McDonald; and brother-in-law, Jerry Martin.
