David Gordon Paul

David G. Paul, age 93, former longtime Gilman farmer, passed away Sunday evening, August 16, 2026, at UnityPoint Health in Marshalltown. Born on September 27, 1932, at home in Gilman, Iowa, he was the son of Ralph and Marguerite (Vande Kamp) Paul. He graduated from the Gilman High School’s Class of 1950.

On September 14, 1952, he was married to his beloved Doris Kellogg and they were blessed with three daughters. The family made their home on the farm until moving to Marshalltown ten years ago. In later years, he enjoyed farm auctions and machinery trading where he made lifelong friendships.

Dave liked to stay busy and was very involved with the community over the years, including volunteering as a 4H leader, serving on the Telephone, Elevator and Gilman Community Church boards, and as a member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed playing card games like Pepper and Five Crowns and traveling, especially his Thanksgiving trips to Wichita. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and keeping up with his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Left to cherish his memory is Doris, his loving wife of 74 years; three daughters: Pam (Phil) Roney of Wichita, KS, Vicki (Kyle) Morgan of Wichita, KS, and Jan (Kevin) Dougherty of LeGrand; grandchildren and their families: Josh Augspurger and his son Nyle; Jacie (Steve) Sullivan and her children: Maleea Sullivan, Marquette McFerren (and his daughter Maggie McFerren), and Mekale McFerren Sr. (and his son Mekale McFerren Jr.); Jordyn (Chazz) Zaragoza and her children: Grayson Pike and Zilyana Zaragoza; Tina (Travis) Wilbur and their children: Whitney and Cole Wilbur; Scott (Carrie) Sayre; Kirk (Amanda) Dougherty and their children: Landen and Leilani Dougherty; and Kyle (Jordian) Dougherty and their sons: Cade, Asher and Isaac Dougherty; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In death, Dave rejoined his parents and his siblings: Lee, Wayne, James and Margaret.

Services for Dave will take place on Saturday, August 22, at 10:30 AM at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Collins officiating. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation on Friday, August 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, also at the funeral home.
