David Rowden

David Rowden, 86, of Marshalltown, passed from this life on Thursday, March 30th, at Central Iowa Healthcare with family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 4th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at the Riverside Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the services. Memorials in his honor may be directed to the Marshalltown Public Library or the Animal Rescue League. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. David was born at home in Gladbrook, Iowa, on August 4th, 1930. He was the son (and a twin) of William and Edna (Atkisson) Rowden. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1948. On May 24th, 1952, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Douds at the 1st Congregational Church in Marshalltown. They have made Marshalltown their home throughout their married lives. David was employed at Fisher Controls, Bordens Dairy and lastly the City of Marshalltown as an operator of the Water Pollution Control Plant. David was a member of the 1st Congregational Church, Marshalltown Car Club, Marshall Gun Club and the UAW Local #893 Retirees. He treasured many things in life including: hunting and fishing, reading, going to the casino and playing bingo, watching television and traveling as well as his Harley-Davidson. He appreciated of all types of music from classical to modern, and country to rock and roll. Most of all, he loved and cherished his family and all types of animals. He is survived by Eleanor, his loving wife of nearly 65 years, children- Eileen (Joe) Duran of Lakewood, CO, Robert (Rhonda) Rowden of Iowa City, Jeanine Williams of Iowa City, Lisa (Dave) Gruver of Marshalltown, 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and his twin sister, Dana Ainsworth of Waverly. Also surviving is his fur-baby, Rowdy, the Chihuahua. David was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ray Rowden and sister, Dorothy Malek.
