David W. Savage, age 88, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Harmony of Marshalltown.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Pastor Alan Mullikin will be officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation one hour prior also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. David William Savage was born September 23, 1936 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of James and Estella (Cheville) Savage. David grew up in Marshalltown, graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic School. On August 27, 1955, he married the love of his life, Myrna (Vannatta) Savage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. David soon joined the workforce, working for Fisher Controls in the Pre-Assembly department until his retirement in 1994. He was a proud member of the United Auto Workers union (UAW-893).
David had a passion for playing golf. In his free time, he also enjoyed gardening and umpiring slow-pitch and softball. Both David and his wife also enjoyed traveling to South Texas during the winter for 25 years. They were both considered “snow birds” or “winter Texans.”
He is survived by his three children: Alan (Bobbie) Savage of Eldora, Jeff Savage of Le Grand, and Deb (Eddie Garcia) Martin of Nevada; his six grandchildren: Stacy (Jaime) Sanchez of Georgia, Kim Gibbs of Grimes, Kevin Grabenbauer of Nevada, Andy Grabenbauer of Colo, and Coty and Tim Savage, both of Eldora; four great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and two sisters: Kate Hauptly of Marshalltown, and Nita Harre of Ankeny.
David is preceded in death by his wife Myrna; his parents, James and Estella; his brothers: Ed, Jim, Chuck, Paul, and Louie Savage, his sister, Aina Golly, and two siblings in infancy; and daughter-in-law, Linda.
