David Schmidt

David Schmidt, age 72 of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family on May 11, 2023 and under the care of Iowa River Hospice.

Per David’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no formal services will take place at this time. Memorials in David’s name may be directed to his family for a later designation. David William Schmidt was born December 9, 1950 to parents Donald and Viola (Soucek) Schmidt in Tama, Iowa. David attended school in Marshalltown.

On December 28, 1968, David was united in marriage to the love of his life, Darlene “Sue” Schmidt in Nebraska. They called Marshalltown their home raising their two children. David was a jack of all trades and spent many years working in the scrapping industry.

David is survived by his wife, Sue Schmidt; his son, Timmy Allan Schmidt; his grandchildren, Alli Shearer, Elizabeth Sue Schmidt, Rayne Ainsley Schmidt, Gabrielle Ruby Viola Schmidt, Samantha Mae Schmidt, and Billie Jo Schmidt; great-grandson, Tyler Dean Hammond; his step-mother Francis Schmidt; and his siblings, Robert Schmidt, Roxanne Schmidt, Tammy (John) Harding, Lyle (Robin) Clayton, and Randy (Karen) Clayton.

He is preceded in death by his son, William Joseph Schmidt; his parents, Donald Schmidt and Viola Clayton; his step-father Larry Clayton; his mother and father-in-law; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
