David Spillman

David Spillman, 56, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Unity Point Health in Marshalltown. Memorial services for Dave will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one hour before the service, starting at 4:00 p.m. A memorial ride in Daves honor will start at 1505 Sanford Avenue in Marshalltown (5 miles north on Highway 14) with kickstands up at 3:30 p.m. before the service and a reception will follow at the house after the service as well. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dave and his family. David Carl Spillman, or Gup as he was also called, was born on October 1, 1960 in Iowa City to Carl and Gretchen Schnitzler Spillman. He was united in marriage on September 17, 1988 to Donna Petermeier in Garwin. Dave had worked for Fisher Control. He was a member of UAW Local 893 as well as Abate of Iowa. Dave loved riding his Harley, doing yardwork, hunting and tinkering. He truly loved his grandchildren and was the best father, son, brother and grandfather and was always there for his friends and family. Dave is survived by his wife of 28 years, Donna; daughter, April Spillman of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Isaiah and Elijah. He is also survived by his parents, Carl Spillman of Cedar Falls and Gretchen (Ron) Devilder of Albion; siblings: Mike (Jodi) Abrahams of Le Grand, Danny Abrahams of Liscomb, Debbie Hodson of Austin, Minnesota, Greg (Karen) Spillman of Marshalltown, Steve Spillman of Marshalltown, Bobby (Kathi) Abrahams of Albion and Kerry Abrahams of Marshalltown; as well as his grandmother Joyce Mailey of Marion and extended family and friends. Dave is preceded in death by his father Robert Abrahams and his sister Becky Madison.
