David B. Wedgwood

October 17, 1946 — December 18, 2024

David B. Wedgwood, age 78 of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at UnityPoint Healthcare of Marshalltown.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service beginning at 6:30 P.M. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, December 30, 2024 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Haverhill.

Born David Benjamin Wedgwood on October 17, 1946, in Marshalltown, the second child of Wayne R. and Agnes A. (Dankbar) Wedgwood. He was the only rambunctious boy in the family, always exploring on his bicycle. He attended St. Mary’s High School.

David enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963 until 1966. He proudly served his country overseas in Munich, Germany, where he also enjoyed good German beers.

In 1968, David was united in marriage with Carolyn “Jamie” Worsfold. They were blessed with two children, Kelly and Philip. The couple later divorced.

David was united in marriage with Lesli Diane Farr in 1981. From this union were three sons, Jonathan, Stephen and Michael. The couple later separated.

After returning from the service, David returned to Marshalltown where he worked for Swift and Company, now known as JBS, until 1982. He moved to Wyoming to become a jet engine mechanic. After finishing his schooling, he moved to Tempe, where he worked for America West Airlines for nearly 20 years. He returned to Iowa in the early 2000’s, when he began working for AAA as a personal line account manager, until retirement in 2016. Although David retired, he kept himself busy as he was a jack of all trades. He had been a hard worker and a do-it-yourself kind of guy his whole life. He could fix anything and it would be done the right way!

David was a member of St. Francis of Assis: St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post #315 of Britt, IA. Faith was a strong pillar in David’s life and he was certain to pass that onto his children. David would tell his kids, “A family that prays together, stays together”.

David’s children were always his top priority. He was sometimes miss understood with his blunt, tough love approach, but it was always from the goodness of his heart and for the kids’ best interest. David loved to bring his kids from AZ to IA for visits to show them where he grew up, the wildlife, and snow! David was his children’s hero – he always had words of encouragement and supported them in their activities. He helped with Boy Scouts and coached little league baseball.

In his leisure time, David enjoyed fishing – to clarify he enjoyed catching fish, not waiting for the fish, and hunting. He also enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, and treating himself to donuts as he had quite a sweet tooth.

David was preceded in death by his parents; son, Philip David Wedgwood; son-in-law, Dave Mason; sisters, Linda Bennet, Carla McWilliams and Margaret Grommet; and his niece, Barb Jones.

Left to cherish his memory are: his children, Kelly Mason, Jon Wedgwood, Stephen Wedgwood and Michael Wedgwood; grandchildren, Tanner (Allison) Metz, Jaymi (Blake) Barnhart, James (Kennedy) Mason and Jack Mason; and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Charlie Metz and Harper Mason. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, David McWilliams and Philip Grommet IX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
