David Lee Wells, 91, of Marshalltown, passed away at home Friday morning, July 3, 2020, under the care of the Iowa River Hospice. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 10th at the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday evening, July 9th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A memorial fund is being established. One of eighteen children, David Lee Wells was born June 5, 1929 in Shaw, Mississippi, the son of Nick, Sr. and Joanna (Perkins) Wells. He grew up in the area of his birth until the age of eight when the family moved to Chicago, IL. After graduating from high school, David faithfully and honorably served our country in the United States Army. On March 22, 1949, he was united in marriage to Emma Tucker. David had been employed as a cab driver in Chicago; and he owned a thrift store in San Diego, California. After retirement, they moved to Marshalltown in 1986. David was very fond of poetry and composed many poems himself and recorded them on tape. He also enjoyed his lottery scratch tickets. Most of all, he loved his family very much and he will be greatly missed. Those left to cherish his memory are his children: David (Rosemary) Wells, Kathleen (Eddie) Wells, Deborah Wells, Nick (Genise) Wells and Karen (Mitchell) Falconer; eighteen grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. In eternal life, David has been reunited with: his parents; his wife, Emma; his son, Joseph and seventeen siblings.
