David S. Yates, 66, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He was the son of Claude and Ethel (Clark) Yates. He graduated from Kahoka High School in Missouri. David served our country honorably in the United States Army, 4th Infantry, from 1961-1964. He moved to Marshalltown in the early 1970s. On April 20, 1985, David married Pamela Winters at their home in Marshalltown. David owned and operated his truck for over 40 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, gardening, riding his Harley, and being with his family.Surviving David are his four children Julie (Harold) Flohrs of Laurel, Shelley (Mike) McNeer of Newton, Tim (Kathy) Kelley of State Center, and Melinda Boyd of Gladbrook; his ten grandchildren Tanner Hamelau, Pamela Taylor Hamelau, Allyssa Flohrs, Matthew McNeer, Brooke McNeer, Valerie Boyd, Katrina Lovan, Alycea Reeder, Dalton Kelley, and Daniel Kelley; his two great-grandchildren Abby McNeer and Adam McNeer; his brother Steven (Linda) Yates of Lexington, KY, his niece Michelle Yates (Dewayne) Childers of Lynch, KY; and his great-niece and great-nephews Brittany Childers, Steven Childers, Logan Childers, and Fred Childers.In death, he rejoins his parents and his wife, Pamela Yates, who died in 1996.
