Deacon Irvin Vaske

January 16, 1933 — September 2, 2018

Deacon Irvin F. Vaske, 85, of Marshalltown, Iowa fulfilled his original marriage vow of getting to heaven with his wife’s faithful prayers.  His death came peacefully on the early morning of Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the Iowa Veterans Home with his loving family by his side. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 7th at St. Henrys Catholic Church with Father Don Czapla officiating.  At 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6th a public rosary will be recited at the church.  Following the rosary, visitation will begin.  A public vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. also at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Irvin’s name to his family which will be later designated elsewhere.  For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234.  Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Irvin and his family. Irvin Frederick Vaske went to be with Jesus on September 2, 2018.  Irvin was born on January 16, 1933, in New Vienna, Iowa. He was the sixth son to Alois and Marcella (Lechtenberg) Vaske. He graduated from Manchester High School in 1952. After graduation, Irv was drafted to the Armed Services. In 1953, he served in the 6th Armored Cavalry in Germany and patrolled the border to Austria. When he returned home, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Kramer, of Prairieburg, in August 1956. He wore many hats during his adult life with Jeanette, including those of a husband, a father, a milkman, and an insurance salesman. He retired as a salesman for United Laboratories Inc. in 2015. Irv was ordained as a deacon in 1986 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa, where he resided with Jeanette and their family. Irv enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, storytelling, keeping up with politics, and spreading joy and the good word of the Lord to anyone and everyone he possibly could during his time in this life. Irv is survived by his wife, Jeanette Vaske, and his children, Dave (Ruth) Vaske of LeMars, Dan (Rhonda) Vaske of Marshalltown, Lynne (Chris) Carroll of Marshalltown, Regina (Mike) West of Montour, Colleen (Wayne) Tendall of Waukee, and Carol (Don) Walsh of Cedar Falls. He also is survived by his siblings, Laverne of Marion, Mary Quint of Ryan, Walter Vaske,  Gene (Betty) Vaske, and Leon (Verna)Vaske all from Manchester, as well as 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Marcella Vaske and his brothers Arthur, Gerald, and Robert Vaske.
