Dean Butters

Russell Dean Butters, 86, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his loving family surrounding him. Funeral Services will be held at11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Russell Dean Butters was born in Quarry, Iowa; he was the son of Harley and Clara (Bowles) Butters. He attended school in the Marshalltown Community and graduated with the Class of 1948. Dean served his country honorably in the United States Army and then served in the reserves for a total of 27 years. On April 28, 1956, Dean was united in marriage to Marjorie Havens in the University of Iowa Chapel on campus and they had resided in Marshalltown their entire married lives. Dean had worked for Marshall Printing as a bindery foreman during his working career. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, a good game of pool, playing cards at the Senior Center and loved his family time. He will be remembered for his quick wit and always had a good joke. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Marjorie; daughter, Susan (Rick) Schill of Union, Iowa; grandchildren: Zack Schill of Boise, Idaho; Gwyneth (Bob) Heston of Madrid, Iowa and Lindsey (Dominic) Catrambone III of Burbank, California; great-grandchildren: Grace, Sophia and Claire Heston and Dominic Catrambone IV; and sister, Joan (Gene) Hilleman of Melbourne, Iowa. In death, Dean rejoins his parents, Harley and Clara; daughter, Andrea Lynn; and sister, Alice Taylor.
