Dean Proffitt

Dean Proffitt, 84, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on the morning of Monday, April 18, 2022 at Accura Healthcare of Marshalltown under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Services for Dean will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022, beginning at 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Dean was born on June 6, 1937 to parents L.S. and Mabel Lucille (Mallatt) Proffitt in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was one of 9 children blessed to the pair. He attended school in Liscomb, Iowa and graduated in the class of 1957. On June 5, 1964, Dean had found the love of his life and was united in marriage to Ivadeen Avery at the Grace United Evangelical Brethren Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Together they began a family of their own raising their three children. Dean worked at Swift in Marshalltown for many years as a meat cutter and retired in 1999. Together Dean and Ivadeen were members of the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. In his free time, Dean enjoyed fishing and camping, singing, cooking for Ivadeen and his family, gardening, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears and Iowa State, showing the importance of faith to his family and friends, but most of all he loved his family. In his younger years, Dean coached basketball and softball and helped out with Boy Scouts. Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years Ivadeen Proffitt; his children, Denise (Bruce) Badgley, Hope Douglas, and Sharon (Arnie) Finch; his grandchildren, Kristin (Shane) Jennings, Courtney (Joey) Schamerhorn, Adam (Becca) Badgley, Haley Finch, Zariah Proffitt and Zohntay Proffitt; his great-grandchildren, Marli, Lawson, Coen, and Alora Badgley, Jaxon and Jace Jennings, and Parker Schamerhorn; his brother Dale (Marianne) Proffitt; his sister Hazel Rhoades; alongside numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents L.S. and Lucille Proffitt and his siblings, James “Jim” Proffitt, Robert “Bob” Proffitt, Shirley Scovill, Cora Ann Frahm, Vianna Penezich, and Maxine Cooley.
