Dean Whitmore, 72, of Marshalltown, died early Friday, July 30, 2010, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dean and his family. Phone 641-844-1234. Dean Lyle Whitmore was born on February 22, 1938, in Marshalltown. He was the son of Orie and Doris (Hauser) Whitmore. He attended school in Ferguson through 11th grade and then graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1956. He served our country honorably in the United States Navy from 1956-1962. In 1957, Dean married Patricia Nelson in California. Patricia died in 1985. He later married Georgie Memmer at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marshalltown in 1994. Dean was employed with Thermogas for 33 years delivering propane and fertilizer. He was a member of Eagles and Our Savior Lutheran Church and was a Little League coach. He was the kids and grandkids#1 Fan. He had a great sense of humor and was very social. Music was important in his life. He played the guitar and sang with Party Time Players. He enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, and spending winters in Texas. Left to mourn his loss is his wife Georgie of Marshalltown; his children Jim (Colleen) Whitmore of Traer, Patrick (Tanja) Whitmore of Melbourne, Michael (Kelly) Whitmore of Legrand, Shellie (Terry) Heil of Marshalltown, Melodie Whitmore of Marshalltown, and Todd (Diane) Whitmore of Marshalltown; his stepsons James Memmer of Nevada and Jonathan Memmer of Fort Madison; his 20 grandchildren; his 8 great-grandchildren; his brother Dale (Dorothy) Whitmore of Marshalltown; his sisters Shirley Waltemeyer and Beverley Slocum, both of Marshalltown; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his dog Dinka. In death he rejoins his parents, his first wife Patricia, and his daughter Cheryl Whitmore.
