Deanna "De" Daters

The bright and shining soul of DeAnna “De” Daters, 64, lifelong resident of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 under the care of Iowa River Hospice after a brave battle with cancer. Funeral services for De will take place on Saturday, February 12 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish: St. Henry Catholic Church. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation on Friday, February 11 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Henry with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Born DeAnna Lynn Hennis on October 13, 1957 in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Bennie and Evelyn (Lang) Hennis. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1976 and went on to receive her certification as a dental assistant from Marshalltown Community College. Through mutual friends in high school, De met Daniel “Dan” Daters. Though they started out as “just friends,” a romance later blossomed. They were united in marriage on July 28, 1979 and were blessed with two sons, who were her pride and joy. As they grew, De enjoyed helping with little league and her active role as Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. De worked hard to support her family both inside and outside of the home. She worked as a dental assistant at the practice of Dr. Tweed and Dr. Wells, as well as for Dr. Collison for over 17 years. She went on to work at Certainteed in Grinnell, the post office and then Emerson – Fisher Controls, where she worked for 16 years. In her free time, De enjoyed reading, camping and kayaking. She absolutely loved her family and being a grandma. She was fun-loving, feisty and strong-willed. She was also very social enjoyed spending time with her friends. Her spunky and magnetic personality will be deeply missed by so many. Those left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Dan; her two sons: Adam Daters of Cedar Rapids and Brian (Hali) Daters of Marshalltown; four precious grandchildren: Addox, Axton, Braelyn and Kaidre; her mother: Evelyn Hennis of Marshalltown and her sibings: Kevin (Kim) Hennis of Conroe, TX, Kari (Scott) Riemenschneider of Marshalltown and David (Beth) Hennis of Waxhaw, NC. De is preceded in death by her father, Bennie.
