Deborah Paul

Beloved mother, wife, grandma, and friend, Deborah Mae Paul, of Marshalltown, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2022 at the Iowa River Hospice House. Services for Deborah will take place on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation one hour prior to services. Memorials in Deborah’s name may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown. Born Deborah Mae Connley on October 8, 1953 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was one of two daughters of Harold and Doris (Krouse) Connley. She attended school in Marshalltown, where she graduated from the Marshalltown High School in 1972. Her ability to bring joy to others was shown throughout her working career. She worked for Lincoln Valley Golf Course from 1989-1995 and later drove the city bus in Marshalltown until her retirement. In her free time she enjoyed playing softball for Hickory Park and being a jokester- the one to always make other people laugh. As a bartender at Beaner’s Bar she met the man that brought a tear to her eye, LaVerne Paul. They began as bowling partners and then were united in marriage On June 30, 1982. They lovingly spent the next 39 years together enjoying every moment they could with family and friends. She loved her time in Guttenburg, Iowa, where she and LaVerne lived in their cruiser boat for 10 years and then in their camper for the next 16 years. Whether she was playing cards with her girls in Guttenburg, golfing, or just spending time with those dearest to her, she was always able to bring out a smile in all those around. Deborah’s other loves included her son and her grandchildren. Deborah is survived by her loving husband, LaVerne; her son, Josh (Rachel) Cook; her grandchildren: McKayla and Joseph Cook; brothers-in-law: Jim Runner and Larry Paul and sisters-in-law: Audrey (Don) Lutes and Ardith McCarville. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Doris Connley; sister, Linda Runner and grandparents.
