Delbert Virgil Johnson departed this life at Long Term Care in Nevada, Iowa on October 16, 2015. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. at Eden Cemetery in Rhodes, Iowa on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. There will be no public visitation. He was born on January 5, 1949, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Delbert Virgil Johnson, Sr. and Lillian Mary Bull the third of four children, and grew up in Rhodes, Iowa. His father passed away when he was seven years old. He resided outside the state for several years, returning to Rhodes where he had lived for the past 34 years. Del had a great love for animals with an extreme fondness for cats. He liked to read novels and enjoyed watching comedies. He was a Born-Again Christian; enjoyed reading and studying The Bible and enjoyed sharing Jesus with everyone he met. He loved helping and encouraging others, family and friends. He was a volunteer at the Community Christian Cupboard at St. Josephs Catholic Church in State Center. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Mary Lundsford of State Center, Leo (Margaret) Johnson of Eagle Grove, Heather Johnson of State Center, Tim (Deb) Martin of Fairmount, Georgia, and Tammy (Danny) Krock of Cambridge; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
