Della O. Casey Airey, 84, of Marshalltown, died Friday, September 17th, at the Iowa Veterans Home where she has resided the past week. Her death came peacefully at 6:26 p.m. with her family at her side. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 21st, at St. Marys Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Miller officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved Ernest and Ann Marie in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service all at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to Mid-Iowa Workshops or the IVH. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Born Della O. Stefani on March 23rd, 1926, in Ankeny, Iowa, she was the daughter of Rex and Lisa (Fontanini) Stefani. Della graduated from the Ankeny High School in 1944 and Mercy Hospital in Marshalltowns Nurse Cadet Corps in March of 1950 as an LPN.On January 26th, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ernest Casey at St. Marys in Marshalltown. They had always made their home in Marshalltown where she was employed at the hospital and four local physicians in their offices as well as community nursing. Later, Della worked at the IVH from 1980 until retiring in 1990. Mrs. Airey was a faithful member of St. Marys Catholic Church, the VFW Auxillary, American Legion Auxillary, Vittoria Lodge Auxillary, the Altar and Rosary Society (now Council of Catholic Women) and did volunteer work at IVH, recently earning a special award for her countless hours devoted to IVH residents. On September 7th, 1991, she was united in marriage to Floyd Airey at St. Marys. Della moved to the Westown Apartments on Main Street upon their opening and was blessed with many neighbors who will miss her presence and friendship. Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Michael Edward (Raechel) Casey and John Joseph Casey both of Marshalltown, her grandchildren Nicole Casey and Tiffany Casey, Jeff (Mindy) Ceaser and Sarah (Jess) Hassman, great-granddaughter Brooklynn Ann and great-grandson Reid Ceaser, siblings: Roger Stefani of Ankeny, Nancy Stefani of Des Moines, Mary Rose Fugaccia of Ankeny, her family from her marriage to Floyd Airey including- Ray (Kathleen) Airey of Marshalltown, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. In eternal life she has rejoined her husbands Ernest Casey who died July 8th, 1988 and Floyd Airey on July 1, 1992, her daughter Ann Marie who died June 9th, 2000, daughters-in-law Jan Casey and Rhonda Casey, brothers Marco and Raymond, sister Rose Mary at birth, her parents and grandparents.
