Delmar H. Edel, 84, of the Iowa Veterans Home, died November 18, 2008, at MMSC. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2008, at St. Marys Catholic Church with Father Jim Miller officiating. Enichement will be in the Riverside Columbarium on Friday at 1:00 p.m. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to St. Marys Catholic Church. Delmar Henry Edel was born on December 23, 1923, in Haverhill, Iowa, the son of John J. and Augusta C. (Knoll) Edel. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Haverhill. Delmar served our country honorably in the United States Army from April, 1943 to December, 1945. After his military service during World War II, he studied in Paris for 2 years. Delmar worked in Chicago as a machinist and tool and die maker. He retired in 1986 and moved back to Marshalltown to be near his family. He was a lifelong member of the VFW, a past member of the Elks, and a member of both St. Marys Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, watching CSPAN, listening to classical music on his Bose radio, and family gatherings. He had traveled extensively throughout Europe. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Arvaleen Vacek of Omaha, NE, Roger (Rita) Edel of the Iowa Veterans Home, Maxine(George) Liston of Marshalltown, and Jeanette(Keith) Loney of Marshalltown; his sister-in-law, Helene Edel of Marshalltown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In death, he has rejoined his parents and three brothers, Ronald Edel, Raynold Edel, and Matthew Edel.
