Delores Gord

Delores (Stump) Gord, age 84 of Marshalltown, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Harmony Marshalltown.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Following visitation, cremation rites will take place. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

Born Delores Mae Stump on February 5, 1940 in Winterset, IA, the daughter of Charles Artis and Bessie Elizabeth (Pritchard) Stump. She was raised in Des Moines, IA, and graduated from Woodside High.

Delores was united in marriage with Edward J. Gord on January 30, 1959. They were blessed with three children, Mark, Brian and Robin.

Before having children, Delores was a nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs and the Evangelical Hospital in Marshalltown. After her children were born, she stayed home to care for them.

In her early years, she loved to go on road trips with her family; pick a direction and go explore. They would camp, go fishing, and explore as a family. Her family was her main focus in life, and she adored her grandchildren. Delores loved to make arts and crafts and had a gift to make beautiful quilts. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and making candies to share with others. One thing for sure, Delores had the gift for gab; she had never met a stranger and had friends everywhere she went.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law; her husband, Edward, in 2012; three infant children; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law; and one niece and one nephew.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark (Arlene) Gord, Brian (Roxi) Gord and Robin (Clark) Zeisneiss; granddaughters, Niome Zeisneiss and Alicia Gord; step-grandsons, Mark Shearer, David Zeisneiss, Christopher Varnum, Andrew Letch, Mark Bear and Jim Bear. Along with her sister, Donna (Jerry) Aalbers and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
