Deloris Thompson

Deloris G. Thompson, 74 of Marshalltown, died Thursday, November 5th, at the Grandview Heights while in their care, her loving family and the Iowa Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Lane Chapel of the Riverside Cemetery with Pastor Greg Boyle of the Iowa Hospice officiating. Born Deloris Gray Silence on November 10th, 1934, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, she was one of 11 children born to Marion Daniel and Beatrice Belle (Jenkins) Silence. She received her education in the area of her birth. On July 16th, 1951, she was united in marriage to Durwood E. Thompson in Jacksonville. They made their home in the Sneads Ferry area where she was a homemaker and raised her family. She was a faithful member of the Pentecostal Church. Mr. Thompson died on April 17th, 1995, and she moved to Marshalltown on April 7th, 1998, to be near family. Left to mourn her loss are her four children: Elbert (Gwen) Thompson of Guyton, GA, Leebna G. Allen and Hattie B. Gersema both of Marshalltown and Ellen G. Thompson of Roanoke, NC, step-children: Dolphus A. Thompson and Hattie Mavis Smith both of Sneads Ferry, NC and Emma Murphy of Pink Hill, NC, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 17 step-grandchildren, 27 step-great-grandchildren, 11 step-great-great-grandchildren, her sister Opal Patrick of Jacksonville, NC and brothers John Thomas Silence and Jimmy Silence of Jacksonville and James Paul Silence of Banwart, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In death she has rejoined her parents, her husband, step-daughter Marilee Jones, step-granddaughter Myra Smith, siblings: Delbert Silence, Mary Ellen Gurganus, Charlie Silence, Daniel Silence and baby brother Daniel.
