Denise (Vos) Emmert, age 72 of Marshalltown, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2027, at Unity-Point Health – Allen Hospital.

Born Denise Ilene Vos on November 1, 1953 in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Paul and Ruth (Briggs) Vos. Denise graduated from Lynnville Sully High School in the Class of 1972.

On September 2, 1978, Denise was united in marriage with Larry Louis Emmert in Lynnville, IA. They built a life together in Marshalltown. Denise worked at Iowa Workforce, helping at Iowa Valley Community College frequently.

Denise cherished time with her family. She never had children of her own, but loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Denise was known for giving everyone that left her home a hug and a kiss, no exceptions. She was also an animal lover, especially her cat, Max. Denise had a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious laugh. She was all for trying new things, until the frustration set in, then she would pass off her new hobby to someone else. In retirement, she created abstract paintings, gifting many to family members.

In death, Denise is reunited with her parents: Paul and Ruth; in-laws, Ray and Helen Emmert; her husband of 45 years, Larry; and an infant sister, Doris. Left to cherish her memory are her siblings: Diann (Dave) Wadsworth, Donna (Terry) Holloway, and Don (Martha) Vos; nieces and nephews: Scott, Tricia, Amy, Jason, Leah, and Evan and their families; and her sister-in-law, Deloris and her family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Per Denise’s wishes, cremation rites will take place following her visitation. Memorial donations may be directed to the Animal Rescue League.
