Denise Thornes, 61, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at her home. Memorial services for Denise will be held at 3pm on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Kerry Jech officiating. Public visitation will be held one hour prior to services where her family will be present to greet friends. A luncheon will be held at New Hope Christian Church (3901 S Center St, Marshalltown, IA) immediately following the services. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Denises family in the name of the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown out of respect for her beloved dogs. Denise Thornes was born on February 11, 1953, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Mac Thornes and Marian (Bryngelson) Thornes. She was raised and educated in the Cedar Rapids School District graduating from Jefferson High School. After high school Denise went on to receive her LPN from Hawkeye Technical Institute in Waterloo, Iowa. She and her former husband, Larry Crosser, were married on March 18, 1972 in Marshalltown, Iowa. Their relationship remained the rest of her life. Throughout her life, Denise was employed as a nurse and retirement homes. She had a passion for making jewelry, sewing, crocheting, fishing & camping, watching old films, going to concerts and was especially fond of Star Trek. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dennis Crosser and his spouse Lori of North Liberty, IA, Andrew Crosser and his spouse Heather of Colorado Springs, CO, Emily (Crosser) Ladewig and her spouse Nicholas of Ames, IA, Zachary Crosser of North Liberty, IA, and Amanda (Crosser) Brooks and her spouse Nathan of North Liberty, IA; grandchildren: Christian, Luke, Isabelle and Lilly; siblings: Mike Thornes and his spouse Maritza of Lakeland, FL and Carrie (Thornes) Lippincott and her spouse Shaun of State Center, IA; her father: Mac Thornes; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mom, Marian Thornes; one brother: Dennis Thornes and her beloved dogs: Suzi, Henry and Peanut.
