Dennis Lee Brekke, age 73, of Union, Iowa, passed away on July 13th, 2026.
Dennis lived a full life that impacted everyone around him. His life started on October 14, 1952, in Williams, Iowa, born to Orville and Pearl Brekke. After graduating from Union-Whitten High School, he served in the National Guard, founded Brekke Building & Supply, and, with his wife Dawn, built a successful farm. Dennis believed in doing things the right way, taking pride in his work, and creating lasting quality. He often said he wanted the land to be in better condition than when he started farming and deeply valued work that brought goodness and blessings into others' lives.
When not working, Dennis enjoyed being an active community member through service in 4-H, his church, and spending time with family. Dennis spent time with family by dragging his oldest boys behind the boat on water tubes, watching kids' sporting events, attending the Hardin County Fair and the Iowa State Fair, eating funnel cakes, and riding the giant slide. On Sunday afternoons, he would watch hours of football and kick the football to the moon; some claim that when it came back down, it had moon dust on it. He was always willing to advise and lend a helping hand to fix anything around the house. Every time he prayed, he would pray for his family and was often moved to tears. Dennis will be remembered as a person who loved those close to him and brought joy to their lives by being with them. These moments and many more are the memories we hold close, reminding us of his love for each of us.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn Brekke, children Tanden (Erin) Brekke and their children Micah, Annika, Reilley, Eva; Ty (Lori) Brekke and their children McKenna, Wyatt, Cadain, Alexis; Jeana Brekke, Aunew Brekke, Devi Brekke, Abhi Brekke, Shouly (Kordell) Norem and their child Bennett; and Wilson Brekke. He was predeceased by his parents, seven siblings, and one grandson.
A visitation will be held at Cornerstone Church of Christ, 14777 US-65, Zearing, IA 50278, on Friday, July 24th at 1:00 pm, followed by a family led memorial service at 2:30 pm. A burial will follow at Hauser Cemetery in Whitten, Iowa, for immediate and extended family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Dennis Brekke.
