Dennis Brooks

December 16, 1939 — May 25, 2024

Dennis Leroy Brooks, 84, of Ankeny, Iowa and formerly of Marshalltown, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at UnityPoint Health- Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.


A Celebration of Life for Dennis will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Dennis Leroy Brooks was born on December 16, 1939 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Aaron and Opal Brooks. Dennis graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1957. On April 15, 1962, Dennis was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Peshel in Marshalltown. They would later move to Tacoma, Washington in 1986 and returned back to Iowa to reside in Ankeny in 1997. Dennis had previously worked for JBS- Swift for twenty-five plus years, worked at Interbake in Tacoma, Mrs. Clarks and Wal-Mart for approximately fifteen years. Dennis was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, played 500, cribbage, nine hole and other board games. He also enjoyed visiting Branson, watching Grit TV and his dogs: Mandy and Cassie.


Dennis is survived by his children: Sallie (Mark) Martin and Michael Brooks, both of Ankeny; grandchildren: Bailey (John) Morain, Heidi (Michael) Sharp, Abby Martin (Annie Cochran), Deven (Chealse) Brooks and Britny Brooks (Cameron Baker); great-grandchildren: Hayley, Gavin, Cameron, Isabell, Jackson and Rhome. He is also survived by his half-sisters: Judy Jerome and JoAnn Snyder and other half-brother and sisters: Betty, Linda, Russell and Jimmy.


Dennis is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon; parents: Aaron and Opal; sister: Jerri and half-brother: Wiley.
