Dennis Decker

Dennis Decker, 56, of Marshalltown, died December 27, 2008 at his home while in the care of his loving wife, family, and Iowa River Hospice. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009, at St. Henry Catholic Church with Fr. Don Czapla officiating. Denny will be laid to rest in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Haverhill. Visitation will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church from 5-8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009 with a 7:30 p.m. vigil. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Denny and his family. Ph 641-844-1234. Denny was born on July 5, 1952 in Marshalltown, Iowa to William and JoAnn (Ralf) Decker. He attended Marshalltown schools and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1970. He attended the University of Oklahoma, where he studied avionics and obtained his license as a pilot, then attended the University of Iowa. On September 16, 1978 Denny was united in marriage to Marcia Stalzer at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haverhill, Iowa. They lived in Kerrville, Texas for four years, but spent most of their married life in Marshalltown. Denny worked as an Electrician for over 30 years. He worked for Warden Electric, Curtis Mathes, DW Electric (Kerrville, TX), Web Electric, and Alliant Energy as an E-tech. His work was his hobby. He was always thankful that he could help others with a basic necessity and wanted to perform quality work. He also felt fortunate to work for good companies and with good men whom he considered among his closest friends. Denny was a member of St. Henrys Parish in Marshalltown, Iowa Golf Course Superintendents Association, and Lincoln Valley Golf. He enjoyed playing slow pitch softball. He coached Little League baseball prior to marriage and later coached his daughters in MGSA softball. He was a school board and booster club member of Notre Dame grade school in Kerrville, Texas. He enjoyed time with his family and friends at the familys cabin on Holiday Lake in Brooklyn, IA. Left to cherish his memory, are his loving wife of 30 years, Marcia; his daughters, Maria (Zoshua) Zeutenhorst and their daughter Anya of West Des Moines, and Alaina (Adam) Daters of Cedar Rapids; his parents, William and JoAnn Decker of Marshalltown; his siblings, Tom (Mary) Decker of Marshalltown, and LeeAnn (John) Murray of Marshalltown; and his grandfather Marion (Laura) Ralf. He also leaves behind many cousins, Godchildren, nieces and nephews who he loved very much. In death, he has rejoined his grandparents, Cleo and Mildred Decker, and Margaret and Dwight Plate. Denny was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
