Dennis Eige, age 75 of Marshalltown and The Willows, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, under the care of Iowa River Hospice.
Dennis John Eige was born on July 12, 1950, in Marshalltown, the son of Norman and Opal “Jean” (Baker) Eige. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1968 and continued his education at MCC. Denny earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
Shortly after moving to Cedar Falls for college, Denny met a lovely young lady, Lois. On August 5, 1972, Denny was united in marriage with Lois Barz. From this union, they were blessed with three children: Darrin, Andrew, and Christine.
Denny and Lois moved to Marshalltown in 1973. They established themselves with Our Savior Lutheran Church in 1976, where Denny was a charter member and active in various areas of service alongside Lois. He served on the Marshall County Conservation Board, including being president when they built the conservation center. Denny also was a member of the Optimist Club and Youth Conservation Corps (YCC). In recent years, he facilitated the Parkinson’s support group.
Denny was a teacher at heart, in many aspects of his life. He taught in the Marshalltown Public Schools for 33 years, Glick Elementary for 10 years and Franklin for 23 years. Denny was a coordinator and swim teacher in the Red Cross Swim Program. He was also personally a competitive swimmer. Denny also enjoyed camping with his family, canoeing, and golfing.
In death, Denny is reunited with his parents: Norman and Jean Eige; sister, Judith (John) Rundall; and his daughter-in-law, Heather Eige. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Lois; children: Darrin (Sonya) Eige of Coralville, Andrew Eige of Cedar Falls, and Christine Eige of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Riley, Ethan, and Eli Eige, Parker and Emmett Eige; and great-grandson, Matthew.
Per Denny and his family’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from noon until time of service. Denny will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be directed to the family for later designation to organizations near to Denny’s heart, including Marshall County Conservation Board and Our Savior Lutheran Church.
