Dennis Wayne Johnston

Dennis Johnston, 66, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on April 21, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa after a courageous battle from his accident, in the presence of his loving family. The family will be holding a memorial gathering at 1302 West Main Street, Marshalltown, Iowa, Saturday, April 25, 2015, from 11:00 to 2:30. p.m. A graveside service will be held following the memorial gathering at 3:00 p.m. at Center School Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa. Military Honors will be presented by Harry C. Harter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 839 and American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post # 46 Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Dennis Wayne Johnston was born on September 8th, 1948 to Buford Francis Johnston and Alice (Church) Johnston at the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa. He attended school at the Gilman Community School, graduating with the class of 1966, and bravely served his country in the United States Army from 1969 until 1975. Later, Dennis attended Marshalltown Community College, receiving his Associates Degree and graduating in 1979. On May 12th, 1979, Dennis was united in marriage to Connie Mein outside Laurel, Iowa. Connie and Dennis moved around from state to state before finally settling back down in Marshalltown, Iowa. Dennis had worked as a CNC machinist for Fisher Emerson, and for John Deere until his retirement in 2014. He and Connie also owned River Breeze Antiques in Palm Bay, Florida for 15 years. He was a carpenter and loved woodworking, prowling through the timber for lumber and his dogs and well as his friends and family. He will be fondly remembered as man with gumption. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 35 years; Connie of Marshalltown, Iowa, children, Melinda Roper ( Billy) of TX, Denise Smoldt (Brad) of Gladbrook, Iowa, Carolyn Johnston of Palm Bay Florida, John Borsch of Marshalltown, Iowa, Jason (Tammy) Johnston of Le Grande, Iowa. Grandchildren; Michael and Stephen Rockwell, Sarah, Jason Jr. and Hadley Johnston, Anistyn Borsch, Hunter and Sophie Smoldt. In death, Dennis rejoins his Parents Buford and Alice, brothers; David and Danny Johnston, and a son Brian Borsch.
