Dennis L Neel was born September 7, 1940 in Conrad, Iowa. He was the oldest of five children born to Hubert and Eileen (Cochran) Neel. Dennis grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa. He spent his winters in Marshalltown and the summers on the family farm Chariton. In 1961, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed on carrier ships during Viet Nam. He was honorably discharged from service after six years and returned home.
On July 3, 1970, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Vicki Ankrum. Together they made their home in Marshalltown and later adopted their only son, Kim Neel. Dennis worked for Monfort then Swift in Marshalltown for 40 years before retirement but he found his true passion in carpentry and woodworking. He tended to have his free time devoted to the craft and working on various projects. In addition, he was deeply religious in his Christian beliefs, active within his community, and loved to joke around. When his son Kim was younger, they would go fishing together and created many memories. He was known by his family as a hard worker and a great husband and father.
Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Vicki Neel; his son, Kim Neel; grandchildren, Elle (Nathan) Jorgenson-Fulton, Isaac Neel, Solomon Neel, Elizabeth Neel and Noa Neel. He is also survived by his siblings, Donna Anderson and Gary (Bev) Neel and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In heaven, he rejoins his parents Hubert and Eileen Neel; his siblings, Patricia Neel and Bill Neel and his paternal and maternal grandparents and other loved and cherished family members.
