Dennis Wirtz

Dennis E. Stub Wirtz, 57, of Marshalltown, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at his home while in the care of his family and Iowa Hospice. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dennis and his family. Phone 641-844-1234. Dennis was born to Robert and Rose (Berglund) Wirtz on June 27, 1952, in Boone, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm near Ogden. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1970. He was joined in marriage to Debbie Huntley in 1971. They had two children, Derek and Dani, during their 12-year marriage. In 1987, Dennis met Sandra Kos and later became married in 1998. They lived a wonderful life together until Sandys death in 2003. Dennis worked for the Iowa DOT construction for 37 years and retired at the age of 55. He enjoyed drama, theatre, and local plays. He was a member of the SDC-Studebaker Drivers Club. He also enjoyed the Hawkeyes, camping, friends, and family. Surviving Dennis are his children, Derek (Kerry) Wirtz and Dani (Josh) Sanders; his grandchildren; his father, Robert (Eleanore), his brother Jeff (Tammy), his sister Jan (Tim), and his nieces and nephew. In death, he has rejoined his mother, his grandparents, his brother Dwight, and his wife, Sandy.
