Derald E. Bud Gonzales, 77, of 812 South 12th Street, found peace and tranquility and Sunday, February 4th, 2007, at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. A graveside remembrance service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 8th, at the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown with full military honors by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 7th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the graveside services at the hospitality room of the funeral home. Bud was well known for all of his kindness, fairness, and most of all, his outspokenness. He was admired and respected by many whom he served while being in law enforcement. He served in both the Marines and the Army. Bud was a police officer, then deputy sheriff and finally Sherriff of Marshall County for nearly 19 years. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He will be greatly missed and was loved by many including his wife, Lona, children Rick (Carrie) Gonzales of Marshalltown, Terri (Wayne) Hendryx of Kellogg, IA, sister Bonnie Batesole of Marshalltown, six grandchildren: Joshua (Alicia) Hansen, Justin (Tammy) Hansen, Joey Hansen, Tiffany Gonzales of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Krystal Gonzales of Eureka Springs, Arkansas and Eric Gonzales of Springfield, MO., step-grandchildren Danielle Hendryx, Michaela Anderson and Logan Anderson, great-grandchildren Dillon Hansen and Carson on the way. In death he has rejoined his parents and brother-in-law, Hal Batesole.
