Diane Grieff

Diane Grieff, age 82, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and formerly of Dale City, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on the night of Wednesday, March 19th, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Born on June 10, 1942, in southwestern Pennsylvania, Diane was the daughter of John and Martha. She spent her childhood on a farm where she enjoyed time with her parents, grandparents, siblings, and numerous cousins. She graduated from high school and went on to graduate from The Robert Morris School in Pittsburgh. In August 1961, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ronald Grieff, and the couple was blessed with three children – Brian, Karen, and Ellen.

The couple eventually made their long-term home in Dale City, where they were both active in the community and their church. Diane was involved with the women’s craft group at Holy Family Catholic Church where she enjoyed making quilts and crafts for the church’s annual sale and where she made many dear friends.

Diane spent most of her life as a homemaker, taking care of her husband and children and providing a safe and loving home with dinner always served at 5:00 p.m. She was skilled at sewing, and her daughter’s and granddaughter’s dolls were never without a variety of clothes. She also made dolls and quilts which are cherished by her family. Diane enjoyed visiting parks and traveling with her husband, baking, reading, watching golf, tracking her children’s travels, tea time, and doing the Sunday crossword puzzle. Her family will miss her witty sense of humor and her caring soul.

After Ron’s passing, Diane moved to Marshalltown to be near her daughter and her family. Diane enjoyed living and making new friends at the Village Cooperative of Marshalltown, lunches with her daughter, and attending St. Henry’s Catholic Church - St. Frances of Assisi Parish.

Left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses, Brian (Kathy), Karen (Jim), and Ellen (Roger); her adored grandchildren David (Melani), Conner (April), Isabelle, and Julianne. She is also survived by her sister Suzanne and brothers John and Richard “Mike” as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In death, she rejoined her beloved husband Ronald and her parents.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Dale City, Virginia, on Thursday, April 3, at 10:30 am. She will be laid to rest in the Quantico National Cemetery with her husband, Ronald. A luncheon reception with the family will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Dale City following the burial service.
