Diane Warden

Diane “Di Di” Warden, age 75, of Union, Iowa passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026 in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her loving family under the care of Iowa River Hospice.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Diane’s graveside service has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2026 starting at 11:00 A.M. at Sheppard Cemetery in Union, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Diane and her family. Family requests casual dress or Iowa State Cyclone attire. Diane (Brindle) Warden was born on May 12, 1950, in Eldora, Iowa at the Eldora Hospital. She was the daughter of George Arthur and Mary Gertrude (Rowen) Brindle. Diane attended U-W (Union Whitten) Community School and graduated with the class of 1968. She was able to continue her education and become a CNA/CMA. On September 7, 1974, she married Dennis Earl Warden at the Chester Friends Church in Union, Iowa and they later divorced. For the majority of her working career, Diane worked at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown and then Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad where she retired in 2015. She was also trained as an Emergency Medical Technician where she volunteered for the Union Area Ambulance for several years. Diane was also a faithful member of the Salvation Army Home League.

In her free time, Diane enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, playing cards, games, and hanging out with the ‘crew’ being mouthy, sassy and stubborn. She also enjoyed sitting outside, campfires, and fishing when she was not at the casino playing slot machines and Bingo. Diane loved spending time with her family and close friends, especially Jennifer, who was not only her daughter, but also her best friend.

Diane is survived by her children: Kyle Warden of Casper, WY., Jennifer (Matt) Morris of Union, IA., and her bonus daughter, Christy Clemons Gunderson; her siblings: Duane “Hap” Brindle, Charles “Chuck” (Sheryl) Brindle, Janine (Dan) Johnson, several nieces and nephews; and her grand puppies: Tyke, Zeke, and Vinn; and best friend of many years, Bev McCoy.

She is preceded in death by her parents: George and Mary; aunt, Myrna Smith; uncle, Pete Rowen; great nephew, Justin Swick; several other aunts and uncles; and other fur animals.
