Dick Blackford

Richard Dick Blackford, 68, of Marshalltown, died Saturday, November 20th, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 24th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Judy Marshall officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery with a lunch to follow back at the funeral home hospitality room. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Born on August 6th, 1942, in Des Moines, he was the son of Alfonzo and Ina (Ripperger) Blackford. He received his education in the area of his birth. On September 15th, 1962, in Des Moines, he was united in marriage to Linda Edwards. They made their home in several places in the Midwest during his career in retail sales and management and settled in Marshalltown in 1978.Dick will be fondly remembered for his love of family - especially watching his kids and grandkids sports events, building model railroads, fishing, being outdoors, landscaping, and loved to hate politics! Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Rick of Marshalltown, Mike (Jodi) of Grinnell, Karen of Marshalltown and Jeff Boze (Sue) of Marshalltown, his grandchildren: Josh, Shelby, Alicia, Rykki, Jason, Taylor, Dallas, Braden, Cole, Tre, and Cassidy, two great-grandchildren: Joshie and Carson, his mother Ina of Des Moines and brothers Greg of West Des Moines and Steve of Austin, TX. In death, he rejoined his father who died in 1966, a brother Les and his beloved wife Linda who died in 2000.
