Richard E. Castell, 75, of State Center, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at Iowa River Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel in State Center. There will also be a visitation prior to the service on Thursday from Noon-2:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Phone 641-844-1234. Richard Eugene Castell was born on May 2, 1934, at 404 Swayze Street in Marshalltown. He was the son of George Alexander and Dorothea (Anderson) Castell. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1954 and served our country honorably in the United States Air Force. On April 20, 1957, Dick married Diana Laura Posekany in Iowa City. The couple lived in Marshalltown and then moved to State Center in 1963. Dick worked at Dunham Bush/ MEPCO for 36 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of UAW Local 893 Unit 7. He was also recording secretary for the unit. He was also a member of the State Center United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, mushroom hunting, Iowa Hawkeyes, Dallas Cowboys, West Marshall school functions, playing cards, and watching his grandkids events. Dick never met a stranger. Dick is survived by his wife Diana of State Center; his children Laura Castell of State Center, George Mike Castell of Perry, Patrick (Amy) Castell of Marshalltown, and Lynn Weese of State Center; his grandchildren Ariell Klinefelter, Sara Castell, Alexander Castell, Austin Weese, Aspen Castell, Madison Weese, Paige Castell, and Jenna Castell; his sister Geraldine Dodge; his brothers Allen (Nora Jean) Shively of Newton and Gerald Shively of Marshalltown; and his kitties Smokey and Chester. In death he rejoins his parents and a nephew. The family would like to thank Iowa River Hospice for the care that they have given Dick over the years, especially to Sandie Beals.
