Dolores Mae Crookshank

Dolores Mae Crookshank, 89 Dolores Mae (Waterman) Crookshank was born October 23, 1932 in Hawarden, Iowa, the second child of Nolen and Beulah (Green) Waterman. Dolores grew up in Hawarden, and after graduating from high school, she attended and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa). She moved to central Iowa and met her husband (Vern) on Valentine’s Day 1954. She taught primary grades for 5 years. She married Vern Crookshank on June 12, 1955 in LeGrand, Iowa, where they established their residence. Once she and Vern began having children, she became a full-time homemaker. Dolores was a charter member of the LeGrand Lioness Club for the duration of its existence. She also was a member of the Marshalltown Church of Christ for the past 66 years. Dolores died on April 6th at the Iowa River Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by four children: Jeffrey (Tina) Crookshank of LeGrand; Lisa (Lewis) Oglevie of Watauga, Texas; Kerry (Doug) Whitmore of Marshalltown; Jean (John) Bourne of Las Cruces, New Mexico; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; 2 sisters, Alona Boyles of Davenport, and Corrinne (Lowell) Reed of West Des Moines; 2 brothers, Keith (Karen) Waterman of Davenport and Jerry (Kathy) Waterman of Marshalltown. Dolores joins her parents, Nolen and Beulah; her husband, Vern; her son Allen Brent (who died after childbirth); and her grandson Tyler Jeffrey Crookshank. Services for Dolores will take place on Monday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior beginning at 1:00 p.m. For online condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com.
