Don E. Anderson, 85, of Marshalltown, died Monday morning, December 20, 2010 at home surrounded by his family and under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Anderson and Jesse Alice Wallace. He was educated in the area of his birth graduating with the Marshalltown class of 1942. Don served our country honorably from 1942-1945 in the United States Army Air Corp.Don married Dorothy Smith on January 28, 1950 at Dorothys sisters home. They had resided in Marshalltown, Van Cleve, Toledo and Tama. Don had farmed in the Toledo area, he managed the Tama County Home from1964 to 1967, and the Story County Home from 1967 to 1978 and helped reorganize the State County Homes to County Care Facilities. Don managed the Tama County Care Facility from 1978 to 1990. Don was very proud to help reorganize the care facilities and he had been the President of the Association of Iowa County Homes. Dons family had been the most important part of his life and especially his beautiful granddaughters. He also enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, golfing, sports on television and was an avid Cyclone fan. Don had been a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge and the Lions Club.Left to cherish Dons memory is his wife of 60 years, Dorothy, Dons children: Tracy (Sue) Anderson and Kathy (Joe) Mayo of Maine, Dons beautiful granddaughters Shawna Mayo, Brooklyn (John) Betterley, Brittny Mayo, Andrea Mayo, Elisa Anderson , Maddi Mayo, Pauli Anderson and Kinzy Mayo, great-grandchildren Caden Degen, Kaitlyn and Joseph Betterley, and sister-in-laws Ruth Anderson and Helen Anderson.Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph and Harry Anderson and sister Charlotte Roberts.
