In Loving Memory of Donald Alan Swenson
September 8, 1956 – October 11, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald Alan Swenson, at the age of 70.
Donnie was a kind and gentle soul who lived a life marked by hard work, quiet strength, and a genuine love for the people and world around him. He may not have had a formal education, but he was a well-read man with a curious mind and a wealth of knowledge. He could talk about any topic, and there was always something to learn, something to share, or something to laugh about when spending time with him.
Donnie was especially proud of his 40 years working for the railroad. His career was an important part of his life, representing decades of dedication, hard work, and commitment. It was something he took great pride in, and it was a part of who he was.
Donnie had a tremendous love of music, attending festivals, caring for his land and doing all of this with his precious dog, Princess.
Family meant so much to Donnie. He shared 34 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Arlene, whose passing last year left an immeasurable void in his life. He also endured the devastating loss of his first born son Casey at the age of 6 months old and of his 32-year-old son, Trey, last year, heartbreak no parent should ever have to bear.
He leaves behind his loving son, Jeremy Mullis, his devoted sister, Darlyne Swenson and her wife Candi, and his brother, Dwayne Swenson and step-brothers Drew and Duff Coleman. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arlene, his two sons, Casey and Trey, his step-brother, David Coleman and his parents, Donald and Shirley Swenson.
Donnie was fortunate to have a lifelong friend in Deb Tonche, whose kindness and friendship meant so much during the final year of his life.
Donnie's life reminds us that a person’s worth is not measured by degrees or accomplishments alone, but by the kindness they show, the curiosity they carry, the work they do with pride, and the relationships they build along the way.He was our brother, a father, a husband, a friend and a man whose gentle spirit will remain a part of us forever.
Though his passing leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled, the memories, conversations, and love we shared with him will always remain.
Mitchell Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for Donnie and his family. This obituary is protected against unauthorized reproduction or redistribution without the funeral home's or the family's consent.
