Donald Barnhill

Donald Craig Barnhill, born June 14, 1952, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Our beloved, Don Barnhill served our parish at Commerce Community Church in West Des Moines, Iowa since 2013. He was known as a “street angel” ministering to the less fortunate, and giving meals to them through a Sunday School bus.

We have learned that he served in the military in the Navy. We have also learned that he served as a priest for over 20 years. And as he came to a close in his life, he was continuing to serve as a priest at the Iowa Veterans Home as a member of their congregation.

Don served in our church on a weekly basis, and we are sincerely grateful for all of his work and ministry that he performed at our parish. He was a faithful minister of the gospel, a faithful priest, and a faithful love of the Navy. He was also an ordained minister of Shalom Ministry of West Des Moines, Iowa since 1998.

It is evident that he loved God with all of his heart and rendered service to Him perpetually. Don will be greatly missed in varied ministries that he served here at Commerce Community Church.

Don will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel on Monday, January 8 at 2:00 P.M. Cremation rites have been accorded under the care of the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com.
