Donald W. Beane, 87, of LeGrand, passed away on November 10, 2007 after two days at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Memorial services celebrating Donalds life will be held at LeGrand Friends Church (LeGrand) at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2007 with Pastor Alan Mullikin and Rev. Francis Beyea leading. Interment services will follow in the LeGrand Friends Cemetery. There will be a time of refreshments and fellowship following the interment services in the church social hall. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Donald and his family. Ph. 641-844-1234. Donald was born in Marshall County on July 13, 1920, the son of Charles H. and Edna (Ferguson) Beane. He was the youngest of seven children: Helen, Frances (John Watland), Ernest (Celia Meeker) Herschel, Ercil (Maxine Hoover), Mary Lois (Willard Merryman), and Donald (Marjorie Rosedale). He grew up on the family farm and attended schools in Green Mountain and LeGrand, where he graduated in 1939. On January 24, 1943, Donald married Marjorie Rosedale in the LeGrand Friends Church. They were senior classmates in LeGrand High School. They began their married lives on the family farm in Green Mountain. They later moved to the LeGrand area to farm the farms of Reba Mills and Leola Twedt, where they lived until they retired to their home in LeGrand. Donald and Marjorie celebrated their 64th Anniversary this past January. Five children were born to them. They are: Barbara (Dale Burkheimer), Linda (Francis Beyea), Charles, Dennis (Kathryn Wilson), and Donna (James Hoeksema). They have eleven grandchildren: Greg (Charity Greentree) Burkheimer, Lauren Beyea, Andrew Beyea, Amanda Beane, Denise (James Williams), Mary Beane, Arley Beane, Melody Beane, Lydia Hoeksema, Miriam Hoeksema, and Caleb Hoeksema, and one great-grandson, Payton Williams. Donald was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to everyone. The family worked and played together and enjoyed annual trips.Donald and Marjorie have traveled to all fifty states, several European countries, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, St. Thomas Island, Bahama Islands, and Russia. They enjoyed music, games, water skiing, camping, horseback riding, and celebrations of significant family events. Donald was a birthright member of the LeGrand Friends Church. He personally restored fifty-four grave stones in the LeGrand Cemetery and built a lovely white fence on the north side of the cemetery in memory of their deceased son, Charles. Donald was active with the LeGrand School Alumni Association and served one term as president, was active with the FFA clubs with his children, a member of the Iowa Pork Producers Association, a founding officer of the McBain Family Clan, and an avid gardener. His LeGrand garden has prompted many travelers to stop to view and complement the color splash that beautified their Highway 30 trip through LeGrand. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Frances and Helen, brothers: Ernest and Herschel, and son Charles Donald. A memorial fund is being established for condolences.
