Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is caring for Don and his family. Ph. 641-844-1234.
Born on June 25th, 1946, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Winfred and Lois (Polzien) Bracy. He graduated from the Union-Whitten High School in 1964. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served our country honorably for six years. White stationed in Germany, he specialized in Morse code and marksmanship. Don was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He then returned to his hometown to work alongside his dad at Bracy Construction and Bracy Lumber, building many houses in Union and the South Hardin Rec Clubhouse.
On May 23rd, 1981, he was united in marriage to Ann Eggleston, daughter of Chuck & Lillian Eggleston, at the Union Church of Christ. They made their home in Union all of their married lives. Mr. Bracy was a member of the Union American Legion, served on the Union Volunteer Fire Dept. and the water fight team (winning several trophies) and the Union Community Church.
No doubt in anyone’s minds that Don had a very strong work ethic and love of his family. Even when jobs might not be the ideal ones, he gave it 110% to provide for his family. He enjoyed woodworking, making clocks out of live-edge lumber, telling stories and fishing.
Left to cherish his memory are Ann, his loving wife of 43 years, his sons: Dan (Nicolette) Bracy of Sheldon, IA and their children Kaden, Bentley, Keisel and Colette; and James (Whitney) Bracy of Eldora and their children Jade, Logan and Holden as well as two sisters Karen Brennan and Donna Jean Moore.
In death, Don rejoined his parents, many cherished aunts and uncles, and a sister, Sundrea Chrisman.
